Linda Cardellini has reached a major milestone in her television career, winning her first Emmy for her performance in HBO’s dark comedy-mystery series DTF St. Louis.

Cardellini received the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmys, adding one of the television industry’s most prestigious honors to a career that has already included four previous Emmy nominations.

The win represents a significant moment for the actress, who has spent decades moving between television, film and comedy-drama roles.

She also acknowledged her partner, her daughter Lyra Rose and the wider creative team behind DTF St. Louis. The actress specifically thanked co-stars Jason Bateman, David Harbour and Joy Sunday, as well as series creator and showrunner Steven Conrad.

Cardellini’s speech reflected the personal significance of finally receiving an Emmy after years of recognition from the Television Academy.

She also took a moment to acknowledge the other nominees in her category, describing them as talented and inspiring.

Her role in ‘DTF St. Louis’ brought a different side of Cardellini to television

In DTF St. Louis, Cardellini portrays Carol Love-Smernitch, a married woman whose relationship with local weatherman Clark Forrest, played by Jason Bateman, becomes increasingly complicated.

Carol is married to Floyd Smernitch, played by David Harbour. What begins as a friendship between Floyd and Clark eventually develops into a romantic relationship between Clark and Carol, setting off the series’ central chain of events.

The show combines relationship drama, dark humor and murder-mystery elements, giving Cardellini an opportunity to explore a character considerably different from many of her earlier television roles.

Her performance became one of the most recognized aspects of the series during the awards season.

The HBO production earned 13 Emmy nominations, with recognition extending across acting, writing, directing and the limited-series categories.

Jason Bateman, David Harbour and Richard Jenkins were among the show’s other acting nominees, while Joy Sunday was also recognized in the supporting actress category.

The series was additionally nominated for outstanding limited or anthology series, along with awards for its writing and direction.

That breadth of recognition helped establish DTF St. Louis as one of the notable limited-series contenders of the year.

A long-awaited Emmy for Linda Cardellini

Cardellini’s victory comes after a career spanning several decades and multiple acclaimed television performances.

Her first Emmy nomination arrived in 2013 for her guest appearance as Sylvia Rosen on Mad Men. She later returned to the Emmy race for Netflix’s Dead to Me, earning two nominations in 2020, including recognition for lead actress in a comedy series.

The Dead to Me nominations also reflected her work as a co-executive producer on the series.

Despite those earlier nominations, an Emmy win had remained elusive until DTF St. Louis.

That makes the latest victory particularly meaningful: Cardellini has now turned four previous Emmy nominations into her first Television Academy win.

Why the win matters for Cardellini’s career

Cardellini has built her reputation without being confined to a single genre. Her résumé includes comedy, drama, film and television, with performances that have allowed her to move between mainstream entertainment and more character-driven projects.

Her Emmy win for DTF St. Louis reinforces that versatility.

It also arrives at a point when limited and anthology series have become increasingly important spaces for established performers. Shorter-format productions often give actors the opportunity to play complex characters within tightly structured stories, and Cardellini’s portrayal of Carol demonstrates the possibilities of that format.

For DTF St. Louis, meanwhile, the victory adds another significant achievement to an already strong awards showing.

The first Emmy is a career highlight

For Cardellini, the Creative Arts Emmys victory is more than another award-season headline. It closes a long chapter of nominations without a win and recognizes a performance that connected with both critics and the Television Academy.

After years of memorable television appearances, Cardellini finally has an Emmy of her own.

And for an actress whose career has repeatedly demonstrated range rather than relying on one signature role, the DTF St. Louis victory serves as a fitting recognition of that longevity and versatility.
