Umar Khalid Played Cupid for Swara Bhasker and Fahad Ahmad: How Their Love Story Began

Activist Umar Khalid played an unexpected role in bringing actor Swara Bhasker and politician Fahad Ahmad together. Ahmad recently opened up about the beginning of their relationship on The Midnight Hour podcast, revealing that Khalid, who is a close friend, encouraged him to contact Bhasker and even shared her phone number.

According to Ahmad, Khalid simply told him to call the actor after sending him her number.

“Umar Khalid, he is a very good friend of mine. So he told me, ‘I’m sending you Swara’s number, you just call her’,” Ahmad recalled.

Bhasker has also previously described Khalid as the person who brought the two of them together.

“He was our cupid. He was the person who connected us,” she said.

How Fahad Ahmad First Called Swara Bhasker

Following Khalid’s advice, Ahmad called Bhasker. He joked that even after three years of marriage, getting her to answer his calls can still be difficult. However, when he called her for the first time, she answered within a few rings.

Bhasker explained that she generally avoids answering calls from numbers she does not recognise. However, the circumstances were different when Ahmad contacted her.

At the time, she was actively participating in protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and was communicating with people involved in the movement. That context prompted her to respond to Ahmad’s call.

“I do not answer calls from unlisted numbers normally, but at that time, because it was a movement and for solidarity I did answer, or maybe texted, and I replied, and we spoke,” Bhasker recalled.

Their Connection Began at Anti-CAA Protests

Ahmad subsequently invited Bhasker to a protest scheduled for the 19th. The two had already encountered each other at demonstrations linked to the anti-CAA movement before their relationship developed.

One of their early photographs together was also taken at one of those rallies, marking an early public glimpse of their connection.

In February 2023, Bhasker revealed the identity of the “mystery man” she had previously referred to in a social media post, confirming that he was Ahmad.

Swara Bhasker and Fahad Ahmad’s Marriage

Bhasker and Ahmad formally took their relationship forward in early 2023. The couple submitted their marriage documents in January that year and registered their marriage under the Special Marriage Act on February 16, 2023.

Their relationship, which began through shared activism and an introduction facilitated by Khalid, eventually became a marriage. Ahmad’s latest account offers a glimpse into how a simple phone call helped set their love story in motion.
