Amala Paul Returns to Malayalam Cinema as ACP in M Padmakumar’s Horror-Investigation Thriller

Amala Paul is making her comeback to Malayalam cinema after a two-year break, taking on the role of an ACP in filmmaker M Padmakumar’s upcoming horror-investigation thriller. The film, which is currently being shot in Thalassery, marks a new genre for the director known for films including Joseph.

For Amala, the project comes after Level Cross, her most recent Malayalam release. Her return has generated interest, particularly because she will be seen portraying a senior police officer in a female-oriented story.

Amala Paul Takes on a Police Role

Amala Paul will play an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in Padmakumar’s upcoming film. The character is central to the investigation-driven narrative, which combines elements of horror and mystery.

Director M Padmakumar said he had Amala in mind for the role from the beginning and felt she was the right actor to bring the character to life.

“I knew Joju was my Joseph from the initial stage itself. Similarly, I knew this role had to be done by Amala,” Padmakumar said while discussing the casting.

According to the filmmaker, Amala agreed to the project without hesitation and was enthusiastic about taking on the character.

M Padmakumar Ventures Into Horror

Padmakumar, who directed the crime drama Joseph, is now stepping into the horror genre with this project.

The director described the movie as a female-oriented subject mounted on a big budget, suggesting that the story will place a woman character at the centre of its narrative.

“This is my first time attempting horror, so there is a sense of excitement as well as tension,” Padmakumar said.

He added that working in the genre is a new experience for him and that he is looking forward to exploring its possibilities.

Shooting Underway in Thalassery

The upcoming movie is currently being filmed in Thalassery, Kerala. While details about the full plot and the rest of the cast have not been widely revealed, the combination of horror and investigation is expected to give the film a distinct tone.

Amala Paul’s ACP role also represents an interesting change from her recent Malayalam work, with the actress stepping into a character rooted in police investigation.
