Pallavi Sharda is set to explore a cross-cultural love story with Stay, an upcoming French-Indian romantic film directed by filmmaker Rohena Gera. The actor, known to Indian audiences for films including Besharam, has announced her association with the project, describing the filmmaking experience as an unusually introspective journey.

Sharda will play Sailee, a recently divorced Indian woman who is preparing to take over her father’s successful business. Her life takes an unexpected turn when a trip to Paris brings her into contact with Leo, a delivery driver who dreams of establishing himself as an actor.

The relationship forms the emotional centre of Stay, while the characters find themselves negotiating differences in family expectations, social standing, culture and financial circumstances.

Announcing the film on Instagram, Pallavi Sharda spoke warmly about her collaboration with Rohena Gera. Rather than describing filmmaking simply as a production process, the actor reflected on the emotional and creative work that takes place around a film.

She compared filmmakers and actors to people helping an idea take shape, suggesting that every project begins with an emotion or central impulse that eventually becomes a film.

Sharda also said she felt a sense of disbelief during her conversations with Gera before the project came together. Their discussions involved examining emotions and the experiences of women navigating different cultural environments.

For the actor, that exploration appears to have been an important part of preparing for Sailee and the world of Stay.

A love story shaped by two cultures

At the heart of Stay is a relationship between Sailee and Leo, two people whose circumstances are markedly different.

Sailee comes from an established Indian business family and is entering a new stage of her life after divorce. Leo, meanwhile, works as a delivery driver in Paris while pursuing his ambition of becoming an actor.

Their connection therefore develops against a backdrop of more than romance. Family expectations, economic differences and contrasting Indian and French cultural environments all become part of the relationship.

The premise gives Stay an opportunity to examine how intimacy can bring together people whose personal worlds appear very different on the surface.

Pallavi Sharda calls filmmaking a continuing creative process

Sharda also reflected on what happens to actors between films. According to the actor, filmmaking does not necessarily end when the cameras stop recording. The creative experience can continue to occupy an artist mentally long after production has wrapped.

She described films as spaces that pull performers into intense creative experiences, with the impact sometimes continuing during the periods between projects.

For Sharda, those breaks can be complicated. While time away from a production can bring a sense of absence, it can also provide an opportunity to process what the experience has revealed.

She suggested that every film can become a form of introspection, making the pause after completing a project an important part of understanding and absorbing it.

The actor concluded her reflection by acknowledging that she was still processing her experience with Stay, suggesting that the project left an impact beyond the work performed on camera.

Pallavi Sharda’s journey from Besharam to Stay

Pallavi Sharda made a notable appearance in Hindi cinema opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Abhinav Kashyap’s 2013 film Besharam. The film also featured Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor and Javed Jaffrey.

Besharam followed Babli, a car thief who steals vehicles while attempting to help people in need. His life changes after he falls in love with Tara, prompting him to reconsider his choices.

With Stay, Sharda now moves into another relationship-driven story, this time within a French-Indian setting and under the direction of Rohena Gera.
