The Mirzapur universe is heading to the big screen, bringing back its familiar characters while opening the door to new faces and unexpected dynamics. Harshita Gaur, who plays Dimpy Pandit in the popular franchise, has now shared insights into Mirzapur: The Film, including Jitendra Kumar’s casting as Bablu Pandit, her equation with Ali Fazal and the arrival of Ravi Kishan.

In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Harshita reflected on what it means for a long-running streaming franchise to make the transition to cinema and discussed some of the changes audiences can expect.

Mirzapur Makes the Jump From OTT to Theatres

For Harshita, the idea of turning Mirzapur into a film initially came as a surprise.

The franchise is taking an unusual route by expanding its story on the big screen rather than simply concluding the series and subsequently producing a film. According to Harshita, the movie explores a significant gap within the timeline of the original story.

She said the film is positioned between the sixth and seventh episodes of Season 1, allowing the makers to revisit a period that was not previously explored in detail.

That presented a creative challenge for director Gurmita Singh and writer Puneet Krishna. The team had to retain the atmosphere and character dynamics that audiences associate with Mirzapur while making the theatrical outing feel like more than an extended episode.

For a franchise with an established fan base, balancing familiarity with something new becomes particularly important.

Jitendra Kumar Steps Into Bablu Pandit’s Shoes

Perhaps the most discussed casting change surrounding the film is Jitendra Kumar taking over the role of Bablu Pandit, originally played by Vikrant Massey.

Replacing an actor associated so strongly with a popular character is inevitably likely to generate debate among fans. Harshita acknowledged that viewers who have closely followed Vikrant’s portrayal may naturally miss his presence.

At the same time, she believes Jitendra brings his own qualities to Bablu.

According to Harshita, Jitendra’s inherent innocence works well for the character, and his chemistry with the other performers made the transition feel surprisingly natural on set.

She suggested that the interaction between Guddu and Bablu does not feel forced despite the casting change, allowing the brothers’ relationship to retain its familiar emotional rhythm.

Harshita also spoke about her long association with Ali Fazal, who plays Guddu Pandit.

Their on-screen relationship as siblings has become so closely associated with the Mirzapur universe that audiences frequently carry that perception beyond the show. Harshita jokingly acknowledged how firmly the “brother-sister” label has stuck.

In a lighter moment, she even suggested that she would be interested in exploring a romantic pairing with Ali on screen someday — a playful comment that highlights just how strongly viewers identify the two actors with their Mirzapur characters.

Off camera, however, their relationship remains warm and friendly. Harshita described Ali as protective and said that his habit of teasing her helped create a relaxed, family-like atmosphere during demanding shooting schedules.

Ravi Kishan Joins the Mirzapur World

The film also expands its cast with Ravi Kishan, who is associated with the character Babban Yadav.

Harshita recalled spending time with the veteran actor during the shoot in Jaisalmer. She particularly enjoyed listening to his stories about the film industry over morning coffee.

Ravi Kishan’s presence also brings another layer of internet familiarity to the project. The actor has become a frequent source of memes and viral clips online, and Harshita joked about the popularity of his memorable lines and internet persona.

His casting is therefore expected to generate interest both among Mirzapur followers and audiences familiar with his wider pop-culture presence.

What About the Mirzapur Cast’s Fees?

Harshita was also asked about online reports suggesting that the cast members’ remuneration had increased dramatically for the film.

Rather than confirming the viral figures circulating online, she appeared amused by the exaggerated numbers and indicated that growth is a natural part of a long professional journey.

The Mirzapur franchise has been associated with many of its actors for years, and the transition from a successful streaming series to a theatrical film represents another major stage in that journey.

The comments also underline how significantly the franchise has evolved since its original season.

Could Mirzapur Continue on the Big Screen?

The possibility of further Mirzapur films also came up during the conversation.

Harshita responded to the idea humorously, suggesting that the cast could potentially spend another decade making Mirzapur movies.

While the remark was clearly made in a light-hearted spirit, it reflects the scale of the franchise and the enduring interest surrounding its characters.

For now, however, the immediate focus remains on the first theatrical chapter.

Mirzapur: The Film Brings Back a Familiar World

The big-screen version of Mirzapur has the difficult task of satisfying an established audience while giving the franchise a cinematic expansion.

Harshita Gaur’s comments offer a glimpse into some of the elements fans can look forward to: the return of familiar relationships, a new interpretation of Bablu Pandit, Ravi Kishan’s addition to the cast and the continuation of a story within the timeline audiences already know.

With the film revisiting a previously unexplored section of the Mirzapur timeline, the theatrical release could also give fans a fresh perspective on characters and events that have been part of the franchise from the beginning.
