Parvathy Thiruvothu Dismisses Geetu Mohandas Rift Rumours: ‘There’s Nothing to Make News Out of It’

Parvathy Thiruvothu has dismissed reports of a rift with filmmaker Geetu Mohandas following speculation about a social media unfollow. The actor said there was nothing behind the development and criticised attempts to create narratives that pit women against one another.

Actor Parvathy Thiruvothu has addressed speculation surrounding her reported social media unfollowing of filmmaker Geetu Mohandas, making it clear that she does not see the development as a story worth pursuing.

Rumours of a possible disagreement between the two emerged after social media users noticed changes in their online connections. The speculation subsequently led to reports suggesting that the actor and filmmaker may have fallen out.

Parvathy has now rejected that interpretation.

Parvathy: ‘Nothing happened there’

In an interview with Galatta Plus, Parvathy was asked about the reports concerning her social media activity and her equation with Geetu.

The actor dismissed the speculation and said there was no incident behind it.

“Nothing happened there. There’s nothing to make news out of it. I think there is a concerted effort to pit women against women. That’s something that I am not going to bite anymore,” Parvathy said.

Her comments directly challenge the suggestion that a social media unfollow should be interpreted as evidence of a personal or professional dispute.

Parvathy also suggested that women in the film industry are frequently placed against one another through media narratives, something she said she no longer wants to participate in.

Parvathy talks about the Women in Cinema Collective

The actor also referred to her association with the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), an organisation established to address issues concerning women working in the Malayalam film industry.

According to Parvathy, the public perception of WCC members can sometimes encourage narratives suggesting that the women involved are constantly in conflict.

“Especially because of the WCC, it is very easy to pit us against each other, and they would love nothing but for me to give about the follow-unfollow scenario,” she said.

She added that members of the collective have developed an understanding of one another through their experiences.

“We have a far better understanding of each other within WCC, knowing how we have been thrown under the bus several times,” Parvathy added.

Her remarks indicate that she does not want a social media development to be used to manufacture a larger story about tensions between women filmmakers and actors.

Parvathy refuses to comment on Toxic

Parvathy was also asked about Geetu Mohandas’ Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, the Yash-led action drama that Geetu directed and co-wrote.

Rather than offering an assessment of the film or discussing her personal equation with its director, Parvathy said she preferred to let the movie speak for itself.

“For me to even make one statement right now… because that movie has to exist on its own right without anyone making a statement on it,” she said.

Parvathy added that Geetu should be able to present the film on her own terms without outside comments influencing the audience’s perception.

“I believe that if Geetu wants to make a movie, she wants to make it and that has to come out that way without any interpersonal dislike. I completely refuse to bite into it,” she said.

The response also reinforces Parvathy’s decision not to turn the reported social media development into a discussion about the film or her relationship with Geetu.

Geetu Mohandas’ Toxic released in August

Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups stars Yash in the lead and was among the more anticipated Kannada releases of the year.

Directed and co-written by Geetu Mohandas, the film follows a gangster action-drama format and arrived in theatres on August 26 following production delays and considerable anticipation.

The movie received mixed reviews after its release.

With Parvathy now publicly dismissing the rift speculation, the actor’s position is clear: she does not want a social media follow-unfollow development to become a larger narrative about conflict between two women in the film industry.

Parvathy Thiruvothu’s next film

Meanwhile, Parvathy is preparing for the release of ** Pradhama Drishtya Kuttakkar **.
