Rasika Dugal reflects on Beena Tripathi’s emotional journey in the Mirzapur franchise.

Rasika Dugal’s Beena Tripathi has never been a conventional supporting character in Mirzapur. Introduced as the wife of Kaleen Bhaiya, played by Pankaj Tripathi, Beena gradually developed into one of the crime saga’s most layered and unpredictable characters.

With Mirzapur: The Movie now in theatres, Rasika has reflected on the character’s journey and the moments that made Beena such an important part of the franchise.

For viewers who have followed the series from its beginning, Beena’s story has been closely connected to the themes of power, patriarchy, survival and agency. Rasika has previously spoken about the complexity of portraying a woman navigating a deeply patriarchal environment, and her latest comments once again draw attention to one of Beena’s most emotionally difficult moments.

Rasika Dugal Opens Up About Beena’s Emotional Trauma

One of the most disturbing moments in Beena’s storyline comes at the end of Mirzapur Season 1.

After being sexually assaulted by her father-in-law, Beena locks herself inside a room. The sequence marked a major turning point for the character and established the extent of the powerlessness and danger surrounding her.

Looking back at the scene, Rasika spoke about its emotional impact on her.

The actor recalled feeling “shattered” while reflecting on what Beena experiences in that part of the story.

The scene was significant not only because of its emotional intensity but also because it helped shape the character’s subsequent choices. Beena’s journey in Mirzapur is not simply about being part of the Tripathi family; it is about how she attempts to reclaim control over her own life within an environment dominated by violence and patriarchal power.

Rasika has also connected Beena’s story to a wider observation about women and power.

Speaking about the character, she said, “The truth about women in a patriarchal society is that when a woman owns a place, people don’t like it and they try to take her agency.”

That idea is central to Beena’s evolution throughout the franchise.

Although she initially appears to exist within the powerful Tripathi household, her character gradually reveals a strong survival instinct and an ability to make decisions independently.

Her relationship with power is complicated. She is surrounded by people who attempt to control her, yet she repeatedly looks for ways to regain agency.

That contradiction is part of what has made Beena one of the franchise’s most discussed characters.

Beena Tripathi Is More Than Kaleen Bhaiya’s Wife

For a new viewer looking only at the ensemble cast, Beena might appear to have a relatively limited role compared with characters such as Kaleen Bhaiya, Guddu Pandit or Munna Tripathi.

However, audiences familiar with the series know that her importance goes far beyond being Kaleen Bhaiya’s wife.

Beena has developed into a character capable of making strategic choices of her own. Her experiences within the Tripathi household have shaped her understanding of survival, loyalty and power.

Rasika has credited the writers of Mirzapur for giving Beena the nuances that allow her to evolve rather than remain confined to a conventional supporting role.

The character’s unpredictability has subsequently become one of her defining qualities.

From Victimhood to Agency

Beena’s storyline has involved some of the darkest material in Mirzapur, but her character has never been defined solely by what happens to her.

That distinction is important to Rasika’s portrayal.

The character’s traumatic experiences influence her, but they also become part of a larger journey in which she seeks greater control over her circumstances.

Her story reflects a recurring question in the Mirzapur universe: who gets to exercise power, and what happens when someone attempts to take that power back?

For Beena, the answer has never been straightforward.

Her decisions are often morally complicated, making her one of the franchise’s more unpredictable figures.

Mirzapur: The Movie Brings the Saga to Theatres

The story of Mirzapur has now moved from streaming to the big screen with Mirzapur: The Movie.

The film released in theatres on September 4, 2026, continuing the crime saga after three seasons on Prime Video.

Directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna, the film returns audiences to the violent power struggle surrounding the throne of Mirzapur.

Pankaj Tripathi returns as Kaleen Bhaiya, while Ali Fazal reprises his role as Guddu Pandit and Divyenndu returns as Munna Tripathi.

The film also features several familiar members of the franchise’s ensemble, including Rasika Dugal as Beena Tripathi, Shweta Tripathi Sharma as Golu Gupta and Abhishek Banerjee as Compounder.

The cast is further expanded with actors including Ravi Kishan and Jitendra Kumar.

What to Expect From the New Mirzapur Chapter

Mirzapur: The Movie continues the franchise’s central battle for power, with old rivalries and new threats contributing to the conflict.

The transition from a streaming series to a theatrical feature gives the franchise an opportunity to expand its scale while bringing its familiar characters to the big screen.

For fans of Beena Tripathi, however, Rasika’s reflections offer another reminder of why the character has remained an important part of the story.

From the emotional devastation of Season 1 to the increasingly strategic role she has played in the saga, Beena has travelled a complicated path.
