Shruti Haasan Reveals Why She Had to Put Her Persian Cat Aslan Up for Adoption: “One of the Hardest Decisions of My Life”

Shruti Haasan has opened up about a deeply emotional decision involving her Persian kitten Aslan, revealing that a severe allergic reaction forced her to give him up despite her strong attachment to him.

Actor and singer Shruti Haasan has spoken publicly about the difficult circumstances behind her decision to put her Persian kitten, Aslan, back up for adoption.

In a lengthy personal message, Haasan explained that she initially believed her sudden skin problems were caused by something she had eaten. After consulting her dermatologist, however, she began to suspect that an allergy connected to her new pet could be responsible.

The situation eventually began affecting not only her health but also her professional life and emotional well-being.

Shruti Haasan Developed a Severe Allergic Reaction

Haasan said she adopted Aslan approximately three months before sharing her explanation. She described the Persian kitten as playful, affectionate and one of the sweetest cats she had encountered.

Shortly after Aslan arrived at her home, however, she developed a severe rash on her face.

Initially, Haasan thought the reaction might have been related to eating too many mangoes. After speaking with her dermatologist and trying to identify the cause, she came to believe that contact with Aslan’s fur and saliva could be triggering the symptoms.

She tried several measures to manage the situation while keeping the kitten, including grooming him, using air purifiers, wiping him down and changing his food.

According to Haasan, those efforts did not resolve the problem, and medication also failed to adequately control her symptoms at first.

The Allergy Started Affecting Her Work and Daily Life

As the problem continued, Haasan said she had to take extensive precautions around Aslan.

She avoided allowing him onto her clothes and washed her hands after touching him. She also noticed that her symptoms could return after travelling and coming back home.

The recurring allergic reactions eventually began affecting her work, her skin and, most significantly, her state of mind.

Haasan said she wanted to give Aslan the affection and companionship he deserved but found herself struggling to balance his needs with her own health.

She continued trying to find a solution before ultimately accepting that the situation was becoming unsustainable.

The situation became particularly difficult after Haasan returned from Chennai to Mumbai and experienced another, more severe reaction.

At that point, she decided she could no longer keep Aslan at home.

She contacted Aslan’s foster mother, who had cared for him before his adoption, and arranged for the kitten to be placed for adoption again.

Haasan said that she, Aslan’s former foster mother and her friends were working together to find him a safe and loving new home.

The actress made it clear that the decision was not something she wanted to make and that she continues to struggle emotionally with having to say goodbye.

Shruti Haasan Opens Up About the Guilt

Haasan described saying goodbye to Aslan as an extremely painful experience.

She said one of the hardest aspects was knowing that she could not explain to the kitten why he had to leave the home he had become accustomed to.

The actress also asked people not to describe the situation simply as a “failed adoption.”

For Haasan, adopting an animal and attempting to provide it with a loving home remains a meaningful act, even when circumstances eventually make continuing the arrangement impossible.

She acknowledged that she felt she had failed because of her allergies, but stressed that giving an animal a caring home can still be deeply valuable.

Before explaining the situation publicly, Haasan had asked for some personal space and quiet time.

She later revealed that she had been struggling with the emotional burden of explaining what had happened to Aslan.

The uncertainty, guilt and fear surrounding the decision had made it difficult for her to speak about the matter immediately.

She eventually decided to share her experience so that people who had noticed her absence or believed she might be dealing with another problem could understand what had actually happened.

Shruti Asks Fans to Send Aslan Their Love

Haasan concluded her message by asking people to send their love to Aslan and expressing appreciation for those who understood the emotional bond between people and their pets.

Her comments also highlighted an important reality of pet adoption: sometimes health or other unavoidable circumstances can make it impossible for an owner to continue providing care, even when the emotional attachment is strong.

For Haasan, finding Aslan another loving home became the difficult choice she believed was necessary for both her health and the kitten’s future.
