Egg freezing has become an increasingly discussed topic among women in the public eye, particularly as more celebrities openly talk about fertility, family planning and the choices available through reproductive medicine.

Actor Surbhi Chandna has now shared her own perspective.

In an interview with IANS, Chandna said she supports women who decide to freeze their eggs but does not personally feel that it is the right choice for her at this stage of her life.

Her views, she explained, have been shaped by her family’s experience and her own approach to family planning.

“I Also Want to Go the Natural Way”

Chandna referred to her sister’s pregnancy as one of the reasons she remains optimistic about trying to conceive naturally.

According to the actor, her sister gave birth to a son at the age of 39 through a normal delivery despite having a demanding career that involved frequent travel.

Speaking about her decision, Chandna said:

“My sister delivered a boy; he is two years old now, when she was 39, and it was a normal delivery. I also believe in it.”

She added that while she appreciates women who choose to freeze their eggs, she does not currently see the need to do so herself.

Chandna also said she had discussed the procedure with her gynaecologist and remains personally concerned about the hormonal changes involved in fertility treatment.

Her View on Egg Freezing

The actor made it clear that her comments were not intended to criticise women who choose fertility preservation.

Instead, she described the decision as a deeply personal one.

She said that women who believe egg freezing is important for them should make the choice that works best for their circumstances.

For herself, however, she said she would prefer to try to conceive naturally when she and her family decide the time is right.

“I don’t know when we are going to plan, but it will happen when the time is correct,” she said, adding that she views a future child as “a God’s gift.”

What Is Egg Freezing?

Egg freezing, medically known as oocyte cryopreservation, is a fertility preservation procedure.

The process generally involves several steps:

  1. The ovaries are stimulated with hormone medications so that multiple eggs mature during one menstrual cycle.
  2. Mature eggs are retrieved through a minor medical procedure.
  3. The eggs are rapidly frozen using a technique known as vitrification.
  4. They are stored at very low temperatures for possible future use.

If someone later decides to attempt pregnancy, the eggs can be thawed, fertilised with sperm in a laboratory and transferred as embryos through in vitro fertilisation (IVF).

Why Some Women Choose Egg Freezing

There are many reasons women consider freezing their eggs.

Some want to postpone parenthood while focusing on education, careers or personal goals. Others undergo the procedure before medical treatments, such as chemotherapy, that could affect fertility.

For some, egg freezing provides a sense of having additional reproductive options later in life.

However, fertility specialists generally emphasise that egg freezing does not guarantee a future pregnancy. Success depends on several factors, including the age at which the eggs are frozen, the number of eggs retrieved and individual health circumstances.

Does Egg Freezing Cause Hormonal Imbalance?

Chandna said she remains apprehensive about the hormonal changes involved in the procedure.

Medical experts generally explain that egg-freezing treatment involves temporary hormone stimulation to encourage the ovaries to produce multiple mature eggs.

These medications can cause short-term side effects in some patients, such as bloating, mood changes, headaches or discomfort. Serious complications are uncommon but can occur, and doctors typically discuss the risks before treatment.

The hormonal effects associated with the procedure are generally temporary rather than permanent, although every patient’s medical situation is different.

Anyone considering egg freezing should discuss the potential benefits and risks with a qualified fertility specialist.

Family Experiences Can Shape Fertility Decisions

Chandna’s comments also illustrate how personal experiences can influence decisions about fertility.

Seeing her sister have a healthy pregnancy at 39 has given her confidence about trying naturally when she feels ready.

At the same time, doctors note that fertility varies significantly between individuals. One person’s experience with pregnancy at a particular age does not predict another person’s chances.

Factors such as age, ovarian reserve, overall health and reproductive history all play a role.

A Personal Choice

Chandna’s remarks reflect a broader conversation around fertility choices rather than a single “right” approach.

Some women decide to freeze their eggs because it fits their medical or personal circumstances. Others prefer to wait and attempt pregnancy naturally.

Both approaches can be valid depending on an individual’s situation, values and discussions with healthcare professionals.

For Chandna, the decision is rooted in her own family experience and personal beliefs.

She says she is not ruling out motherhood. Rather, she is choosing to wait until the time feels right for her and to pursue the path she currently feels most comfortable with.
