Netflix’s Strategy to Release One Piece Seasons Faster Revealed Ahead of Season 2 Premiere

The live-action adaptation of One Piece quickly became one of the biggest surprises in streaming when its first season premiered in 2023. For years, live-action anime adaptations had a mixed reputation, but Netflix’s ambitious version managed to win over both longtime fans and new viewers.

The series combined practical effects, large-scale action sequences, and strong respect for the original story created by Eiichiro Oda. With more than two decades of source material from the manga and over a thousand episodes in the anime adaptation, the show instantly positioned itself as a long-term franchise for Netflix.

Season 2 arrives after a long wait

Season 2 of the live-action series, titled “Into the Grand Line,” is set to premiere on March 10, 2026. The new season arrives nearly three years after the first installment.

During a recent interaction with IndyaStory, several cast members opened up about the challenge of balancing production quality with the demand for quicker releases.

The show’s lead actor Iñaki Godoy, who plays Monkey D. Luffy, stars alongside Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.

Cast explains pressure to release seasons faster

Speaking about the production timeline, Emily Rudd explained that the team had to pause filming earlier due to industry strikes. Now that work has resumed, the cast and crew are eager to move forward more quickly.

She noted that while the series uses many practical effects, post-production remains a lengthy process because of the visual enhancements required for the world of One Piece.

According to Rudd, everyone involved in the show wants to move “as quickly as humanly possible” to bring the next chapters of the story to viewers.

Taz Skylar echoed the sentiment, saying there is significant pressure to release new seasons faster because of the huge global fan base.

Meanwhile, Jacob Romero Gibson explained that the production team is focused on maintaining a balance between speed and quality.

He said creating the show involves extensive work — from designing costumes and building detailed sets to writing scripts and completing visual effects. Because of this, the goal is to release seasons faster without compromising the scale and production value that fans expect.

Netflix already planning ahead

Fans concerned about another long gap between seasons may have reason to feel optimistic. Netflix has already renewed the live-action adaptation for Season 3, and production is reportedly underway.

The upcoming seasons are also expected to introduce several popular characters from the manga and anime, including a major role played by Xolo Maridueña.
