Filmmaker Prakash Jha has confirmed that a sequel to the political drama Raajneeti is officially in development. More than a decade after the 2010 film became a commercial success, the director has revealed that Raajneeti 2 is currently in pre-production.
The original film featured a powerful ensemble cast including Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Ajay Devgn and Nana Patekar.
Prakash Jha confirms sequel plans
In a recent interview, Jha shared that work on the sequel has already begun. According to the filmmaker, the upcoming installment will once again draw inspiration from Indian mythology, particularly the epic Mahabharata.
He explained that just like the first film, the new story will incorporate elements and character arcs influenced by mythological narratives.

Mythology continues to influence the narrative
Jha revealed that his interest in mythology goes beyond Raajneeti. He mentioned that he had earlier explored a story inspired by the central Mahabharata character Draupadi, which was tentatively titled Panchali.
Although that project did not move forward at the time, the filmmaker continues to draw creative inspiration from epic literature for his political storytelling.
About the original Raajneeti
Released in 2010, Raajneeti presented a modern political drama loosely inspired by characters and conflicts from the Mahabharata. Several characters in the film mirrored mythological figures such as Arjuna and Krishna.
Apart from Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, the film featured a strong supporting cast that included Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpayee and Naseeruddin Shah.

Ranbir Kapoor’s upcoming projects
Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor is preparing for several major projects. The actor will appear as Lord Rama in the upcoming mythological epic Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari. The film also stars Sai Pallavi and Yash.
He is also set to feature in Love & War, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal.
