Chahatt Khanna on Fashion Policing and Women’s Autonomy: “Clothing Should Be Personal, Not Moral”

Actor and entrepreneur Chahatt Khanna says she is entering a new phase in life defined by clarity and self-awareness rather than public noise.

With the launch of her clothing label Ammarzo, the actor is combining fashion with personal philosophy. The brand focuses on comfort, authenticity, and everyday elegance designed for modern women.

In a recent conversation, Khanna spoke about building a brand rooted in real-life experiences, dealing with public scrutiny, raising children as a single parent, and why she now prioritises peace over perfection.

Why She Launched Ammarzo

Khanna said the idea behind Ammarzo emerged from a deeply personal place.

“At this stage in my life, I’m far more intentional about how I live and work,” she explained. “Fashion has always been a form of self-expression for me, but I felt there was a gap between what women truly need in their everyday lives and what fashion often offers.”

According to the actor, the brand was never meant to chase trends but to create clothing that feels comfortable, meaningful, and authentic.

Fashion Inspired by Real Life

Khanna says her current personal style strongly influenced the design philosophy of the brand.

“Comfort is important, but that doesn’t mean giving up femininity or confidence,” she said. “As a working woman and a mother, I’ve learned that elegance doesn’t have to be loud or performative. It can be quiet and effortless.”

She added that Ammarzo is designed for “real lives, real bodies, and real moments,” whether someone is at work, at home, or taking time for themselves.

Non-Negotiables While Designing the Collection

For Khanna, three things were essential while creating the collection: comfort, quality, and respect for the wearer.

“Clothing should not demand adjustment from women,” she said. “The fabrics must feel good on the skin, the silhouettes should allow movement, and the designs should make women feel comfortable in their own bodies.”

On Fashion Policing and Social Judgement

The actor also addressed how women’s clothing choices often attract moral scrutiny. Khanna previously had a public exchange with Urfi Javed over fashion choices, which reignited debates around fashion policing.

According to Khanna, the issue reflects a deeper discomfort with women’s independence.

“Women’s autonomy still unsettles people,” she said. “Clothing becomes an easy surface for moral policing. What a woman wears is often treated as a reflection of her values or character, which is deeply unfair.”

She believes fashion should remain a personal decision rather than a social debate.

Drawing the Line Between Expression and Scrutiny

Khanna said she no longer allows public commentary to influence her personal choices.

“The line between self-expression and scrutiny is internal,” she explained. “I express myself for me, not for approval. Public scrutiny is inevitable in the public eye, but external noise doesn’t define who I am.”

The actor also reflected on the pressure women—especially those in the public eye—face to appear flawless.

“There’s a constant expectation to be successful, emotionally balanced, physically perfect, and resilient all at once,” she said. “For public figures, that pressure multiplies.”

Khanna believes chasing perfection can be exhausting, while choosing peace is a more meaningful form of self-respect.

Life as a Single Parent

Khanna, who is raising her children as a single parent, said motherhood has reshaped her priorities.

“My decisions today are about balance and presence,” she shared. “Work still matters, but not at the cost of being emotionally available for my children.”

She added that motherhood has also made her more protective of her time and emotional boundaries.

On Celebrity Culture and Constant Visibility

Khanna believes modern celebrity culture leaves little space for privacy and healing.

“There’s very little room for silence or introspection today,” she said. “Healing is personal and slow, but public life often demands instant explanations.”

According to her, everyone deserves the space to step away, heal privately, and return without needing to justify that process.

Workplace Changes and Pay Equality

Speaking about the entertainment industry, Khanna emphasised the need for structured work hours and better mental well-being on film sets.

She also acknowledged that pay disparity between male and female actors continues to exist.

“Equal work deserves equal pay,” she said. “Conversations have started, but real change requires transparency and accountability.”

Redefining Success

With her fashion venture, acting career, and personal growth moving in parallel, Khanna now defines success differently.

“For me, success is alignment,” she said. “It’s waking up without anxiety, doing work that feels honest, and being present for my children.”

She added that choosing peace, authenticity, and personal growth now matters more to her than public validation.
