Sanya Malhotra Says Social Media & Television Have Made People ‘Unserious’

Actor Sanya Malhotra, who was recently seen in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, has shared her candid views on the growing influence of social media and television in shaping public conversations.

During a recent public interaction, Sanya addressed whether film personalities have a responsibility to speak on political and social matters. She stated that while everyone has the right to express themselves, the real question is whether audiences are willing to listen.

“Everyone has the right to speak. But do people want to listen?” she said, adding that social media platforms often reduce serious discussions to fleeting trends.

‘Important Issues Get Lost in the Algorithm’

Sanya pointed out that even well-articulated opinions struggle to sustain attention in today’s fast-moving digital cycle. According to her, algorithms dictate visibility, causing important discussions to fade quickly.

She expressed concern that meaningful topics are often forgotten within days—or even hours—because the online space constantly shifts focus.

“Even if someone has a good point, people don’t want to receive. Within a few days and hours, people have forgotten about it,” she noted, highlighting how trending culture overshadows depth.

Television’s Role in the Trend Cycle

The actor also commented on the role of television news channels, stating that they frequently follow trending topics. Once the trend fades, coverage shifts, leaving significant issues unresolved.

“We are making things unserious, whether it’s social media or television. Sensitivity has gone down. We are less empathetic,” she remarked, underlining her concern about declining public empathy across platforms.

Upcoming Projects

On the professional front, Sanya will next be seen in Bandar, directed by Anurag Kashyap and co-starring Bobby Deol. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on May 22.

She also has Toaster in the pipeline, where she reunites with her HIT co-star Rajkummar Rao.
