Global star Priyanka Chopra, who is currently promoting her upcoming Amazon Prime Video film The Bluff, recently opened up about a chilling childhood memory involving her mother, Madhu Chopra.
In an interview with ANI, Priyanka shared how a late-night incident in Delhi shaped her understanding of a mother’s instinct to protect her child — something she deeply connected with while portraying a fierce parent in her new film.
The Night That Stayed With Her
Recalling the incident, Priyanka said she was around 11 years old when she and her mother were travelling in a cab at night in Delhi.
“We were on our way to a hotel in Delhi at night. Suddenly, all I saw was my mother holding the driver’s throat.”
According to Priyanka, the cab driver had taken a route her mother did not recognise and claimed it was a shortcut. It was around 11 pm, and they were alone in the vehicle.

Priyanka added that her mother even slapped the driver and firmly insisted he return to the main road, emphasising that she was travelling with her teenage daughter.
She admitted she had never seen that side of her mother before.
“After that, I didn’t debate her on anything for four months. She was shaking when we got back to the hotel.”
The actor reflected that her mother’s reaction was likely driven by the fact that her daughter was with her, highlighting the fierce protective instinct of a parent.

Set in the 19th-century Caribbean, The Bluff follows a former female pirate whose past resurfaces dramatically, threatening her present life.
The film features Karl Urban as a feared pirate determined to hunt her down. Priyanka’s character is portrayed as a woman battling overwhelming odds to safeguard her family.
