The romantic-action drama recorded an average theatrical occupancy of 14.86 per cent, indicating a steady start across key markets.

Shahid Kapoor’s Strongest Start in Recent Years

With its Day 1 numbers, O’ Romeo has outperformed Shahid Kapoor’s recent releases:

• Deva – ₹5.50 crore
• Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya – ₹6.70 crore
• Jersey – ₹3.2 crore

While the opening does not qualify as blockbuster territory, it marks Kapoor’s best first-day performance in years and reinforces his box office draw, especially in collaboration with Bhardwaj.

Vishal Bhardwaj Calls Film ‘Deeply Personal’

Ahead of release, Vishal Bhardwaj shared a note on Instagram describing O’ Romeo as a deeply personal project.

The filmmaker wrote that the film made him reflect on his capacity for both “love and violence,” adding that he felt immense pride in the cast and crew even before box office or critical verdicts.

He also thanked his heads of departments for going “far more than was ever asked of them.”

Mixed Early Reviews

Initial critical reactions have been divided. A review by India Today pointed out that the film’s nearly three-hour runtime works against it.

“It unfolds like a novel that does not know when to end,” the review noted, suggesting that while the literary texture may be intentional, cinema demands tighter storytelling. The publication added that although the songs are melodious, their frequency contributes to a sense of indulgence.

Ensemble Cast and Weekend Outlook

The film also features a strong supporting cast, including Nana Patekar and Avinash Tiwary.

With positive word-of-mouth crucial over the weekend, trade analysts will closely track whether O’ Romeo can maintain momentum and convert its steady opening into sustained collections.
