Girija Oak Recalls Shah Rukh Khan’s Quiet Strength During Aryan Khan Case: ‘Not Once Did He Lose His Cool on Set’

Actor Girija Oak, who worked closely with Shah Rukh Khan on Atlee’s blockbuster Jawan, has opened up about witnessing the superstar during one of the most challenging chapters of his life — when his son Aryan Khan was arrested following the NCB cruise raid in October 2021.

In a recent interview, Girija described seeing SRK up close during that emotionally charged period and being deeply moved by his composure, dignity and professionalism.

“I have shot with him in one of the most difficult phases of his life,” she said, explaining that the turmoil surrounding Aryan unfolded while Jawan was being filmed. Yet, she noted, Shah Rukh never allowed personal anguish to disrupt the work environment.

‘People Took Pathaan Personally’

Girija also reflected on the overwhelming public response to Pathaan, which released after the controversy and became a historic blockbuster.

“It felt like people took the film’s success personally — almost as a form of collective solidarity,” she said.
“There was this unspoken feeling of, ‘You can’t do this to our beloved person. We will stand by him.’”

She shared that she conveyed this sentiment directly to Shah Rukh, telling him that millions of people across the country wanted him to know they were with him. According to Girija, the actor was visibly moved and humbled by the outpouring of support.

‘Even After the Success, There Was No Arrogance’

What struck Girija most was Shah Rukh’s humility even after Pathaan shattered box-office records.

“He wasn’t celebrating by saying, ‘We made a super hit.’ He simply said, ‘We didn’t expect it to be this big. Thank God it worked.’”

She noted that his grounded nature never changed — not even after enduring public controversies, including scrutiny over his appearance at Lata Mangeshkar’s funeral.

‘Not Once Did He Lose His Cool’

Across months of shooting, Girija said she never once saw Shah Rukh raise his voice or allow stress to affect those around him.

“He always came on time. He always did his work. Not once did he lose his cool,” she said.

Calling two years long enough to truly know a person, she added,
“You cannot pretend for that long. We saw him through all of it.”

Choosing Silence Over Reaction

Girija also explained that during the immediate aftermath of Aryan’s arrest, Shah Rukh stepped away from the public eye and from shooting for several months.

“When we met him again, the matter was almost behind him — and he was the same man: professional, composed, dignified,” she said.

While many voices around him grew louder, Shah Rukh chose restraint.

“He chose silence when everyone else was speaking.”
