A tragic incident has left a German family of four dead after suspected food poisoning in Istanbul, Turkey. The couple and their two young children fell severely ill at their hotel on November 11, just two days after arriving from Hamburg, Germany.
Details of the Incident
The family had ventured to Istanbul’s Besiktas district, known for its vibrant street food culture. They tried midye, a popular snack of stuffed mussels served with lemon. Later, they ordered a variety of dishes at a local restaurant, including kokorec (grilled calf intestines) and tavuk tantuni (a spiced chicken wrap).
Shortly after the meal, all four developed severe symptoms and were hospitalized. Despite medical efforts, the family tragically did not survive.
Investigation and Safety Concerns
Turkish authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause of food poisoning. Officials are examining the street vendor and restaurant hygiene practices, as well as the safety and handling of seafood and street food ingredients.
