Bengali actor Parno Mitra officially rejoined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Thursday around noon, signaling a return to the party nearly six years after she had switched to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Her move comes ahead of the crucial 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.
Parno Mitra had originally joined the BJP in 2019 and contested the 2021 Assembly elections from the Baranagar constituency. She, however, lost to the Trinamool Congress candidate, marking a challenging phase in her political journey.
After formally joining TMC, Mitra candidly reflected on her earlier political choices, describing them as a mistake.
“Joining BJP was a mistake. It is time to mend those mistakes,” she said. “It is a great day for me as I join TMC under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee. Things did not go well earlier, but now it is time to make amends.”
