Sonakshi Sinha Says Her 30-Kg Weight Loss Was Not for Films but for Health: “I Couldn’t Run for More Than 30 Seconds”
Bollywood actor Sonakshi Sinha, who made her debut with Dabangg, has opened up about her challenging and deeply personal weight-loss journey. Before entering films, Sonakshi lost nearly 30 kilos, but she now clarifies that the transformation had nothing to do with becoming an actor. Instead, it stemmed from a wake-up call about her health during her late teens.
Speaking on Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa’s YouTube podcast, Sonakshi revealed that she realised her weight was limiting her basic physical stamina. The turning point came when, at age 18, she struggled to run on a treadmill for more than 30 seconds.
“Weight loss was very difficult for me because I was always an overweight kid. It took me two and a half years to lose all the weight. I didn’t do it for vanity or to become an actor — I did it purely for health reasons. I was 18 and I couldn’t run on the treadmill for more than 30 seconds. That realisation hit me very badly,” she said.
A Journey with Discipline, Experimentation & Balance
Recounting her fitness routine, Sonakshi said she experimented with multiple workout formats to keep herself motivated — from cardio and strength training to yoga and eventually Pilates. Each phase helped her build consistency and understand what suited her body best.
For someone who loves food, Sonakshi admitted that maintaining discipline is not always easy. But the key, she says, lies in balance and a healthy mindset.

I don’t want to be someone who can’t inspire other girls — because I didn’t have such a role model growing up. Your health and happiness are all that matter,” she shared.
Sonakshi was last seen in Jatadhara and continues to use her platform to promote body positivity, self-love and realistic goals around fitness.
