Gouri Kishan asks fans to stop harassing journalist after weight related question row

Actor Gouri Kishan, who recently objected to an inappropriate and personal weight related question at a press meet, has issued a calm but firm clarification — urging the public not to target or harass the journalist involved.

The incident triggered a nationwide debate on body shaming in media and how women in cinema are still asked questions unrelated to their work.

Gouri: “This is not an invitation to harass him”

In her statement, Gouri said she was disappointed that she received a personal question about her body while her male co actors at the same table were not asked the same.

She added that she wished conversations stayed about the film — not about weight.

However, she also asked fans to move forward without hate:

“This is not an invitation to harass the individual involved. Let us move forward with empathy, sensitivity and respect.”

Journalist issues apology, says question was meant to be “fun”

Journalist RS Karthik also released a public explanation.

He said he did not intend to body shame anyone and that the question was meant as a “light” moment.

He apologised and said he would reflect on his choice of words.

Co star and director respond after backlash

Many viewers online questioned why co actors present in the room did not intervene.

Actor Aditya Madhavan and director Abin Hariharan later addressed that criticism, saying they were shocked and did not want to interrupt Gouri while she was expressing herself.

Both have now stated they stand with her.
