Priyanka Chopra Jonas has built a remarkable global career, effortlessly moving between Bollywood and Hollywood. Long before she turned producer, the actress carved her own path through challenging roles and diverse films. In 2015, she launched her production house, Purple Pebble Pictures, choosing not to follow the standard commercial Bollywood formula. Instead, she backed meaningful documentaries and unconventional stories such as Paani, Evil Eye, Ventilator, Born Hungry and several others that earned strong critical acclaim.

In a recent conversation with PTI, Priyanka shared the reason behind her preference for independent and documentary-driven content. She explained that her personal experiences in her early Bollywood days continue to shape her vision as a producer.

“As a producer, I’m empathetic,” she said. “Our focus has always been on giving opportunities to new voices or filmmakers who feel stuck or unheard. I think my drive as a producer comes from the stories that move me personally.”

Her latest project, Born Hungry, released in 2024 and now streaming on JioHotstar, received widespread praise for its storytelling and sensitivity. Reflecting on why she gravitates toward marginalised narratives, Priyanka admitted that it connects back to her own beginning in the industry.

“When I entered Bollywood, I didn’t know anything,” she recalled. “My parents were doctors and unfamiliar with the film business. I was trying to navigate this crazy movie world on my own, and I often felt lost. Maybe that’s why I respond to filmmakers who are told their stories don’t fit the norm.”

Priyanka’s Acting Journey
Priyanka Chopra Jonas first captured global attention after winning the Miss World crown in 2000. She began acting with the Tamil film Thamizhan, followed by her Bollywood debut in The Hero: Love Story of a Spy. Her performance in Aitraaz marked a major turning point, and with films like Fashion, Don, Krrish, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and more, she cemented her place as one of the industry’s leading performers.

What’s Next for Priyanka?
Priyanka is currently gearing up for Varanasi, directed by S.S. Rajamouli and co-starring Mahesh Babu. Alongside the film, she is also filming Citadel Season 2, the high-octane spy series scheduled for release in 2026.
