The latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 17 featured global Punjabi music icon Diljit Dosanjh, who joined host Amitabh Bachchan on the hot seat. Diljit appeared on the show to support relief efforts for flood-hit areas in Punjab.

During the conversation, Amitabh Bachchan mentioned reports claiming that Diljit had adopted 10 villages in Punjab. Diljit instantly corrected the perception, saying:

“Punjab has adopted me. I am from Punjab, so how can I adopt Punjab?”

Big B also asked Diljit about his early life. Diljit shared that studies were not his strongest interest. What drove him instead — was music. He said his parents sent him to relatives in a city when he was around 10-11 years old, without even asking him about the decision. Visits from his family would happen once in 2-3 months.

He also shared an anecdote about how — as a kid — he enjoyed Amitabh Bachchan films full of action, and used to be disappointed if there was no action.

From weddings to ₹2000 gigs — his first bookings

When Amitabh asked him how his concert journey formally began, Diljit revealed that his first paid performance was not a stadium — but a birthday party.

“Everything began with singing at weddings. After my first album, someone booked me for a birthday party — I realised I could earn from this. Even if it was ₹2000 — I would never miss a booking.”

A personal link to Punjab — Amitabh Bachchan

During the conversation, Amitabh Bachchan also recalled his own Punjab connection, saying his mother was a Sardarni, and that he had visited Punjab as a toddler — almost eight decades ago.

During the game, Diljit faced a question worth ₹2 lakh regarding the Indian Women’s Cricket Team — specifically the batter who was born in Moga and idolised Virender Sehwag as a child.
