Actor Preity Mukundhan has shared a heartfelt story about the beginning of her acting career, revealing that she almost skipped her very first audition because she lacked confidence in her abilities. Speaking in a recent interview with IMDb, the actress credited her parents for encouraging her to take a chance—advice that ultimately helped launch her journey into cinema.

Preity, who was recently seen in Idhayam Murali following her critically acclaimed performance in Blast, reflected on the support she received from her family during a time when she doubted herself.

A Family That Valued Both Academics and Passion

The actress explained that she grew up in a family that placed a strong emphasis on education. At the same time, her parents always encouraged her to pursue what genuinely interested her.

According to Preity, while academics remained important throughout her childhood, her family never discouraged her from exploring creative opportunities if they aligned with her interests.

The Audition She Almost Didn’t Attend

Preity recalled that she was around 18 years old and had been modeling when she received an opportunity to audition for an acting role. Despite the promising offer, she was reluctant to attend because she believed she lacked acting experience.

She admitted that she feared embarrassing herself and initially wanted to decline the opportunity.

Her parents, however, saw things differently.

How Her Parents Changed Her Perspective

The actress revealed that her parents made a special trip to her college hostel to convince her not to give up before even trying.

They encouraged her to see the audition as a learning experience rather than something to fear. Their simple message—that there was nothing wrong with trying something new—gave her the confidence she needed to step outside her comfort zone.

Discovering a Love for Cinema

Looking back, Preity said the audition opened the door to a completely new world. As she continued exploring acting, she gradually developed a deep appreciation for filmmaking and storytelling.

She explained that her passion for cinema grew over time and eventually became something she genuinely loved, a feeling she now carries into every project she takes on.

  • Blast
  • Idhayam Murali
  • Kannappa
  • Maine Pyar Kiya (Malayalam debut)

A Story That Resonates Beyond the Screen

Preity’s experience highlights a reality many aspiring performers face: self-doubt often appears before opportunity. Her account also underscores the impact that encouragement from family can have during the early stages of a creative career.

While she did not land her first audition, attending it proved to be the first step toward a profession she now embraces with confidence.
