Chennai: Writer Karan Karkki has addressed growing social media discussions surrounding the Tamil film Anbe Diana, clarifying that the movie is not a plagiarized adaptation of his novel Sattaikkaari.
The clarification comes after online conversations highlighted several apparent similarities between the two works. Observers pointed to shared elements such as a North Chennai setting, an Anglo-Indian female protagonist, references to sports, romantic themes, and storylines involving relocation to Australia. These overlaps led some viewers to question whether the film had drawn heavily from Karkki’s literary work.
However, after personally watching the film and speaking directly with filmmaker Pari Elavazhagan, Karkki said he found no basis for the plagiarism allegations.

According to Karkki, Sattaikkaari explores a much broader social and cultural landscape than the film. He described his novel as a story rooted in Anglo-Indian history, working-class politics, cultural identity, football, and the interconnected lives of three young people.
