Actor Malavika Mohanan believes that modern cinema is increasingly breaking language and regional barriers. Sharing her perspective on the evolving landscape of Indian films, the actress said strong projects today can easily reach audiences across the country and beyond.
Speaking about her experiences in multiple film industries, Mohanan said that the idea of cinema being restricted by language is gradually fading.
“Cinema today is truly borderless. If you’re part of a good project today, it reaches everyone. Language is no longer a barrier,” she said in a recent interview.
Working Across Different Film Industries
Over the years, Malavika Mohanan has worked in several film industries, including Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi cinema.
Her filmography includes collaborations with major stars such as Vijay, Mohanlal, Prabhas and Rajinikanth.
Reflecting on these opportunities, the actress said she feels fortunate to be working with some of the most respected filmmakers and performers from different parts of the country.
“I’m in a space where I’m getting to work with some of the best filmmakers and artists from different regions,” she added.
Learning by Observing on Film Sets
Mohanan also spoke about how she approaches filmmaking as a collaborative creative process.
According to her, every individual on a film set plays an important role in shaping the final product.
“Filmmaking is such a collaborative art form. There are no fixed rules,” she explained.
She also shared that one of her favourite ways to learn on set is simply by observing the people around her.
“One of my favourite things to do on set is observe. It’s similar to what I do when I’m out in the wild taking photographs — you watch, learn and absorb the moment,” she said.
Apart from acting, Mohanan has a keen interest in photography and frequently shares glimpses from her wildlife photography trips on social media.
Accepting Success and Failure in Cinema
Speaking about the unpredictable nature of the film industry, the actress acknowledged that not every project achieves commercial success.
However, she views both success and failure as part of an actor’s journey.
“Of course you want every film to do well, but some work and some don’t. That’s part of the process. As long as I’m growing as an actor and working on exciting projects, that’s what matters,” she said.
Recent and Upcoming Projects
On the work front, Mohanan was last seen in the Telugu film The Raja Saab, which marked her Telugu debut opposite Prabhas. Despite strong buzz ahead of its release, the film did not perform well at the box office.
The actress is currently working on the Tamil sequel Sardar 2, where she stars alongside Karthi.
