Popular Telugu television and film actress Vahini, also known as Padmakka, passed away tragically at the age of 48, leaving the entertainment industry and her fans in deep shock. Her death has sparked grief and conversations around healthcare access, as she was reportedly unable to afford treatment for her life-threatening illness.
Who Was Vahini?
Born in 1978, Vahini was a well-known face in Telugu television and had also appeared in films. Over the years, she earned recognition for her performances and became a familiar presence on the small screen. Friends and colleagues remember her as a dedicated actor who remained resilient despite personal struggles.
Battle With Breast Cancer
Vahini had been battling breast cancer, and her condition reportedly worsened over time. As the disease progressed, doctors advised intensive treatment, including chemotherapy and prolonged ICU care. According to close sources, the estimated cost of treatment was around ₹35 lakh, which proved unaffordable for her family.
Her health deteriorated further, leading to multi-organ failure, after which she was admitted to the ICU. Despite efforts by friends to arrange financial support, the funds raised were insufficient to continue her treatment.
Friends’ Emotional Appeals Fell Short
Her childhood friend Karate Kalyani made emotional appeals on social media to raise money for Vahini’s treatment. While some financial assistance was collected, it did not meet the required amount for sustained medical care. Eventually, Vahini was taken back to her hometown, where she passed away on Wednesday.
Sharing her grief, Karate Kalyani wrote,
“I tried my best to save you, Vahini. You fought bravely. May your soul rest in peace. My heartfelt condolences to your family.”

Vahini’s passing has left her colleagues and fans heartbroken. Many from the Telugu television industry have expressed shock and sorrow, remembering her talent and warmth. Her death has also reignited discussions around the financial burden of cancer treatment and the vulnerability faced by many artists behind the scenes.
